<p class=”Body-sc-15q7shw-0 Paragraph-zudeyy-0 epvAkj” data-test-id=”Paragraph”>Growing out your bangs is a true lesson in patience. In fact, it’s the reason most people don’t even keep them—the fuss and commitment may not be for you, especially if you’re looking for a maintenance cut. But if you’re inspired to change things up, hairstylists like Jasmina Jain, creative director at Jean-Claude Biguine Salons India, and celebrity-approved pro Flavien Heldt, don’t think you need to be scared, as long you can give your strands the TLC it needs. Here are theirfive commandments, which they promise will help you grow out bangs without hating your hair.

<h2 class=”BaseText-sc-19af275-0 BaseTitle-sc-19af275-2 Heading-um2lzp-0 ParagraphHeading3-sc-1hpftp1-0 dYAAXL”>1. Deep-condition your strands

<p class=”Body-sc-15q7shw-0 Paragraph-zudeyy-0 epvAkj” data-test-id=”Paragraph”>Keeping your hair moisturised and well-nourished is important, according to Heldt. Healthy hair grows faster, which will help the grow-out process. “Deep conditioning should be done often,” says Jain, who suggests against bleaching your strands during this time period to prevent any damage that may slow things down.

<h2 class=”BaseText-sc-19af275-0 BaseTitle-sc-19af275-2 Heading-um2lzp-0 ParagraphHeading3-sc-1hpftp1-0 dYAAXL”>2.Get a trim (yes, really!)

<p class=”Body-sc-15q7shw-0 Paragraph-zudeyy-0 epvAkj” data-test-id=”Paragraph”>To keep your haircut looking fresh, it’s important to trim your hair regularly, especially with a fringe or bangs, even when you are growing it out. “Don’t rely on a DIY cut,” says Jain. She advises getting a trim every two months for your style to grow evenly and avoid split ends. You can shorten your layers to balance out the fringe as it grows with regular trims too. “The best moment to change the shape of your fringe for the next phase of growth is when the length is in front of the eyes. A fringe can be either straight or gently curved towards the end. For the transition, I recommend that you increase the curve, progressively longer on both sides and short between the eyes to create an open fringe,” suggests Heldt. Keep this shape of your fringe till the length matches the mid part of your current length. “At this stage, you can trim your hair and create a connection between your old fringe and your hair length by creating a front layer,” says Heldt.

<h2 class=”BaseText-sc-19af275-0 BaseTitle-sc-19af275-2 Heading-um2lzp-0 ParagraphHeading3-sc-1hpftp1-0 dYAAXL”>3. Change your parting

<p class=”Body-sc-15q7shw-0 Paragraph-zudeyy-0 epvAkj” data-test-id=”Paragraph”>“The best way to grow out bangs is to sweep them on the side,” says Jain. You could also try changing your parting to balance your fringe as it grows, which will give you movement and volume in the hair too. For best results, switch from a middle part to one positioned to the right or left, angling it down slightly from the crown of your head.

<h2 class=”BaseText-sc-19af275-0 BaseTitle-sc-19af275-2 Heading-um2lzp-0 ParagraphHeading3-sc-1hpftp1-0 dYAAXL”>4. Use hair accessories

<p class=”Body-sc-15q7shw-0 Paragraph-zudeyy-0 epvAkj” data-test-id=”Paragraph”>Overgrown bangs can get in your eyes and fall flat across your forehead, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Bobby pins and barrettes can help you keep your hair off your face—”just gel it down or spritz on hairspray and swoop your bangs upwards or the side,” says Jain.

<h2 class=”BaseText-sc-19af275-0 BaseTitle-sc-19af275-2 Heading-um2lzp-0 ParagraphHeading3-sc-1hpftp1-0 dYAAXL”>5. Use heat tools sparingly

<p class=”Body-sc-15q7shw-0 Paragraph-zudeyy-0 epvAkj” data-test-id=”Paragraph”>Slicking down hair with a straightener might serve as a quick-fix, but can leave the front of your hair feeling frizzy, dry and damaged after. Instead, lightly blow-dry your bangs to create a curtain bang shape as they grow out. Use the nozzle on your hairdryer to direct the hair forward, and then use a round brush to push it back and create a curtain shape that frames the face.
